Climate Change Summit
Recognising climate change as one of the most immediate issues of the 21st Century the University of Sydney Golden Key Chapter held the Climate Change Summit (awarded the Best Major Event award for it’s outstanding success) on 10th October 2006 at the Great Hall and was attended by over 600 guests and a very distinguished panel of speakers, including:
- the Hon. Bob Carr
- Cathy Zoi (former Chief of Staff of Environmental Policy in the Clinton White House)
- Nick Rowley (former Senior Policy Advisor to Prime Minister Tony Blair)
- Paul Gilding (CEO of ECOS Corporation)
- Jonathan Jutsen (Founder and Group Executive of Energetics and EnVINTA Corporation)
- Dr A. Barrie Pittock (Honorary Fellow of the CSIRO Marine and Atmospheric Research)
- Monique Willis (Associate of the Baker and McKenzie Climate Change Practice)
- Tony Coleman (Chief Risk Officer of IAG).
The intellectual, impassioned and confronting debate explored areas such as “best and worse case” scenarios as well as realistic solutions to combat irreversible environmental damage. The outcome of the event not only demonstrated the feasibility of corporate success driven by an environmental conscience, but also inspired many attendees to step away from environmental complacency, and to move towards taking socially responsible means of action.
