2007 Initiatives
Pink Ribbon BBQ Breakfast
Golden Key’s first fundraiser in association with Pink Ribbon Day was held on 11th
October and was a huge success. The weather was great and the food
even better. At the all day BBQ we served bacon and egg rolls,
pancakes, sausages and the biggest seller of all, cupcakes. All 250
cupcakes were made by one volunteer and were such a hit they sold out
before 12. In addition a raffle was running which will be drawn next
week and a few lucky people will win the bridge climb voucher, Ipod
voucher and some other great prizes. In total over $1500 was made on
the day with money still coming in for the raffle so fingers crossed
for the $2000 target to be reached.
Special thanks to one of our general members Lisa Perkovic and all her
friends for organising and supporting Pink Ribbon day in such a
spectacular fashion.
Ian Thorpe's Foundation for Youth
On
Tuesday 18th September the Sydney Uni Chapter of Golden Key hosted a
movie night to raise funds for Ian Thorpe’s Fountain for youth. The
$468.75 raised from the event and an associated BBQ held earlier that
week will be going towards the charity’s “Literacy Empowerment Project”
(2005-2007), which aims to improve the education of disadvantaged
children through the development of literacy backpacks.
The event was a fun night with many attendees winning prizes in the
raffle. One lucky winner received a $100 gift voucher to spend on
designer clothing by Wayne Cooper. A big thank you to everyone who
attended the movie night, supported our BBQ and the many sponsors who
provided wonderful prizes for our raffle.
Daffodil Day
Friday 24th August was Daffodil Day
and it was wonderful to see so many willing volunteers (Golden Key and
non-Golden Key members) who generously devoted their time and energy to
support the activities of the Cancer Council NSW. With their combined
effort we were able to raise over $5,000 in donations. A very big thank
you to all those involved who helped to make Daffodil Day’s 21st
Birthday very special.
